Tekken 6 Review
* TEKKEN 6, a good/great game overall.*
I like this game, it's just a few things that makes me angry. I'll start with the bad so you can know what you'll be dealing with.
(1: Load Times)
(2: Difficulty)
(3: Online)
(4: Scenario Campaign)
(5: Customization)
(6: The Final Verdict)
***BAD***
(1): **Load Times** *Overall: Not bad*
While they aren't disastrously long, they do have the "how long have I been waiting?" effect...atleast for me.
Since I figured out that I could Install this game to the Hard-drive [HDD] (The option to install the game is located in
the Options, in the Tekken main menu) it has SLIGHTLY decreased the load times...slightly, meaning that the effect will
become unnoticeable once you get used to it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(2): **Difficulty** *Overall: Horrible*
It's not that the Difficulty settings are horrible, it's just that they are so absurd to the point of non-existence.
This game has 5 difficulty settings: Easy, Normal, Hard, Very Hard, Ultra Hard.
The deal breaker for me is this, it seems like Difficulty doesn't mean a thing, it's what character you're fighting against.
(Example)
I was trying to get the trophy for getting a 10-in-a-row in Survival Mode on Normal.
I died by round 3, *Note, this isn't because I "Can't play, or I suck"*
So I then changed to Easy difficulty, because Normal in Survival was a tad bit too hard, and what do you know?
On Easy, Survival, the enemies block 70% of your attacks, and if you don't kill them fast enough, they'll unleash 10-hit combos
like they didn't know better...and that's on round 1!
This, to me, is just plain sad...You might be thinking that I suck, can't even get to 10 on
survival, that's just not the case. Maybe you'll beat 7 rounds, then all of a sudden Bob comes up and completely
obliterates you with his 10-hit combo, block streak, and low-attack obsession. It's so frustrating that I was this
close to never playing the game again. The only characters that kills me/depletes a lot of HP are Zafina, Bob, and occasionally
Ling Xiaoyu.
The difficulty in the rest of the game, however, is at the most part 'decent'. The final boss, Azazel (In arcade mode) will
have you throwing the controller and messing up your Kill/Death ratio in an instant.
To put is simply, he's a big dragon, he's very strong, and he isn't affected at all when he blocks (meaning he can attack you
whenever he wants, even while blocking).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3): **Online** *Overall: Laggy*
A lot of people say that the Playstation Network Patch (applied once you turn on Tekken 6 with an internet connection active)
makes the online play less-laggy. While this may be true, there are a great majority of people using Mobile Broadband, as I am.
I don't know why, but it seems like all fighting games' servers are user created, meaning the lag will depend entirely on the
persons connection you're connected to. When it should be you create a server that's hosted by, say Namco, and it will only
depend on your own connection.
This all boils down to 2 things:(1 The person you're connected to doesn't have a connection good enough for 2 people,
and (2 Most likely the person you'll be playing is in another continent, meaning that's additional lag with the distance.
Either way, it's still laggy at the end of the day.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(4): **Scenario Campaign Mode** *Overall: Six out of Ten*
Scenario Campaign Mode is, for the most part, fun. There are a few things that are annoying though.
The big disappointment with this game, is that it revolves around Scenario Campaign Mode.
Which means the only good way to get money is to do this mode, otherwise get around 2 or 3,000g
a battle in Ghost Battle (Arcade w/ Ranking, similar to the main Arcade mode in Tekken 5)
Now the bad thing about Scenario Campaign mode, besides that Tekken 6 revolves around it,...well that pretty much
is the bad thing. Since Tekken 6 revolves around Scenario Campaign Mode, you'd think that this mode would be a beast(good).
Wrong, this mode has a very bad targeting system, and your fighting primarily counts on this, you are able to use the same
combos as in a regular arcade battle, even though you'll most likely be using the same combination of moves over and over.
You press R1 (Or was it L1? I've forgotten whilst writing this review!) to change targets, but it only targets who's closest
to you, this is a very bad thing if you're trying to kill to a certain enemy.
Weather its getting kicked from the back, or shoved into the water and killed in the front, you'll be frustrated until you get
very used to this.
Movement is horrible in this mode, it's almost 8-Directional.
(Left, Right, Up, Down, Top-left, Bottom-left, Bottom-right, top-right)
When you get close enough to an enemy you start your battle stance, and while you're in this stance your movement is reduced
to slow steps, since you automatically target the enemy.
The only way to break this Battle Stance is to run far enough from the target...there is no button to start free-running again,
only until that fight is over or you make distance.
You have an AI (bot) partner, Alisa, with you the whole while that fights with you...but I find her sometimes-useless, because
when you get a certain distance from her in battle, she'll tend to start dying quicker.
Her costume depends on what you're wearing (If you're wearing costume #1, then her costume will be #1), so you can also
customize her outfit as, say, Costume #1, and she'll be wearing that as long as you have #1 on as well.
The mode has pre-rendered cutscenes of Lars and Alisa, which means the story and cutscenes are of them, no matter what character
you're playing with.
This mode is single-player, and online-co op only. I've never played online-co op. The camera is angled from back to forward,
meaning no matter which way you go, the camera will be angled straight-ahead, not behind your back)
Besides that, Scenario Campaign is fun, although this is one of the few games I've skipped a few movie scenes...they just are
boring and no action whatsoever, just Lars and Alisa looking at everything, and then more and more boring dialogue.
Only times I don't skip is when I see some of my favorite characters in them.

***GOOD***
(5): **Customization** *Overall: Great*
Customization in this Tekken has been pushed to new heights. It is no longer just lame sword-on-your-back, outfit color-changer.
Now, on top of outfit color-changing and lame swords-on-your-back, you can now completely change his or her outfit, and
accessories. From Hat and Glasses, Jackets & Jeans, to Shirts & Skirts, and more! Even Aura's
(I haven't bought these yet... million+.)
You can also buy Hair Bases, which are slick-backed hairstyles that can be customized with extra hair!
Example: You can buy Ponytail High Base, and now go to the Hair Back section and buy Pony Tails for the back of your hair!
They also have really long Pony Tails / free-flowing hair.
This is just a great customization, its just a shame that you have to play Scenario Campaign mode to get enough money,
unless you want to grind hardcore in Arcade mode, but honestly, that's just not an option, these customizations range from
100,000g to 3,000,000g (100k to 3mil).
Enemies in Campaign Mode also drop Treasure Chests sometimes that, when walked on, opens up and gives you a customization item,
the armor in Scenario Campaign also gives bonuses (20% chance to freeze enemy on hit / Attacks deal 20% more damage).
This customization makes me want to replay Scenario Campaign for enough money to buy other items for other people.

(6): **The Final Verdict** *Overall: 4*
I'm sure you're probably wondering why I give it a 4, with so many BAD things, and only one GOOD thing.
Well that's because of The Final Verdict, which is great. I give it a 4 and not 5, because of all of the BAD things, but the
GOOD far overcomes the BAD.
Customization isn't the only good thing in this game of course, Scenario Campaign is great, just have to get over, and used to
the bad things, which isn't necessarily hard.
The Arcade Mode is great, just like the rest of the Tekken's. My review was basically on Customization and Scenario Campaign,
seeing as how they are both newer/new.
Some say this isn't a button masher/sit-down & play game, but it is for the most part.
On here you can actually do a 3-hit combo and look good, whereas on Soul Calibur IV, those 3-hit combos just look
a little lame, and make you seem like you don't know any moves.
*NOTES* To unlock movie scenes, you have to go to the Arena in Scenario Campaign mode. It's unlocked after a few places are
beaten in Scenario Campaign.
The Arena is the true Arcade Mode in this Tekken, it has 4 or 5 battles, 5th battle is Azazel, 4th battle is a bonus stage,
it comes sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bottom line: (1: I rented it. (2: I liked it. (3: I got mad and hated it. (4. I finally took a detailed looked at the Customization.
and (5: I want to buy it.
If this review hasn't helped you, then I don't know what will.
My favorite characters in order: Miguel(1), Lili(2), Dragunov (3)
