Exercise is just one of those things that people love to procrastinate on. It's common knowledge that it's good for the body - for all ages - but everyone also knows that it's not the easiest thing to do in the world. Engaging in family exercise, however, allows you to kill several birds with one stone: everyone stays healthy, exercise becomes easier and more fun because you've got your family with you (read: misery loves company), and of course, you get to spend quality time with each other.
Wii is for We
If you don't own one yet then it's time you do so. This innovative gaming console from Nintendo - the same company that brought you the DS and Sega as well as Super Mario and Pokemon - is specifically designed for providing family entertainment - and if you've got the Wii Fit pack - and family exercise as well.
Wii offers simulation-based games and allows up to four players to play at the same time. Get moving with sports and dancing simulation games. If you're up for a challenge, you can also try games for the Wii Board that gets you sweating while putting your balance and stamina to the test.
Sports
Of course, playing simulation-based sport is all well and good, but it's also nice if you and your family get to experience the real thing. There are lots of sports which allow families to play together or against each other while ensuring entertainment for all. Consider joining family associations and see if your family has what it takes to be the local baseball or basketball champion.
Outdoor Trips
Thirty minutes to an hour everyday is considered sufficient for exercise. But if a daily routine isn't possible then you can simply gather the whole family for a weekend workout.
Outdoor trips or tours can offer a combination of various activities ranging from hiking to canoeing to horseback riding. With this type of workout, family exercise isn't the only thing you'll get but an adventure as well.
Nature Walks
Of course, safaris, camping, and the likes can be too strenuous and risky even if you've got little tykes with you. For families with kindergarten age children, there's still a way to work out under the sun. Only this time, consider settings such as beach campgrounds and national parks. These sites offer a safe and secure way for visitors to explore their natural surroundings.
A nature walk, for instance, won't just serve as family exercise but also an educational experience for your kids. It's time to brush up your knowledge of flora and fauna or you won't be able to point out the many interesting species that you may come across during your walks.
Choose a Project
It can be anything just as long as it offers fun for all members of the family and gets everyone moving. You can choose to remodel your garden or build a tree house. The whole family can also volunteer to be part of the town's cleanup project, which could serve to be an eye-opener for your kids about the importance of environment. Remember: the family that exercises together... get to have the best group photos. Have fun shaping up!
