Sherlock Holmes - the Awakened Game Review

Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened successfully brings the exploits of the Master Detective into 3D puzzle adventure gaming. Join Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson as they travel the world and solve unimaginable mysteries in this story based on H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu world.
The game starts with some people suddenly disappearing under mysterious circumstances in the Master Detective's own backyard. His investigation subsequently leads him and his constant companion Dr. Watson to far-off places like the Louisiana Bayou and from there to other parts of the world trying to uncover the reason for all these disappearances and locate the group that is kidnapping these unfortunate people.
Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened is a truly immersive game. The 3D graphics and playing the game via a first-person perspective makes you feel like you are really there trying to solve these inexplicable mysteries. The 3D world also adds a great new dimension (pun intended) to puzzle gaming. The entire world is interactive, with any little detail being potentially a vital clue in helping Holmes solve the case.
The artwork is top notch as well. You can see the little details in the characters, their faces and their clothing. Every little shadow and texture in every object is finely detailed and looks real in that old Victorian England style.
The mysteries and the story are also nearly perfect. You wouldn't normally expect the highly logical Sherlock Holmes dealing with mystical and supernatural things like Lovecraft's Cthulhu, but it actually works surprisingly well in this game. Kudos to the designers for great storytelling and for being able to perfectly incorporate this style and feel, while still staying true to what you'd expect out of a mystery thriller involving the Detective from Baker St.
The game itself involves a lot of exploration and being alert to the many items scattered across every locale that could potentially be clues to help Holmes solve the case. Small things such as discarded newspapers, finger stains and an innocent passerby could provide that last vital clue to trigger that "Aha!" moment.
And things aren't always what they seem. If something looks fishy, you can whip out your trusty magnifying glass and take a closer look at any suspicious objects. There are also action sequences in the game to break up the slow pace of puzzle-solving. Nothing gets your adrenaline pumping like being chased by mindless Cthulhu worshipers!
In all, Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened is a great puzzle adventure game that captures the essence of both the Sherlock Holmes mythos and Lovecraft's Cthulhu world. It also introduces gamers to a beautifully rendered and detailed 3D world that is seldom found in casual games.
A few warnings though. The game has been designed for a mature audience in mind. There is a fair amount of graphic content and references to the occult in the game. So be warned if you get squeamish seeing a naked dead body lying on an altar with body parts missing... Otherwise, this is a great immersive game that is well worth your time.

PlayStation Eye
PlayStation Eye Review
The camera is great with some of the family games out for it now. It seems to run lag free and very smooth. I tested this with a friend in video chat and we could see and hear each other without any problems. I do have to say this and trust me I am no fanboy but this camera with some games have kinect aspects. I was playing a game with an aquarium and could run my hand throw the water and touch the fish so I thought that was cool. As for the future of this I am excited to see what Move has in store.
Main review:
Concept design: It is a bit bulky and weird in shape but it works. I have dropped this a couple times but it works perfect still, take in the fact that I didn't drop this like 15 ft in the air, a good 5ft onto tile. It also has a nice tilt function so if you place the camera high up you can still aim the camera down.
Visual: For a simple camera it really does well at Hi-Res without any lag what so ever. But then again it does matter how much movement and how many objects are in the camera to pick up. As just one person playing casually it gets the job done. It is not that hard to focus you just need someone else to focus for you while you stay in the one spot, or just set an object in the desired aiming location and focus from there.
Audio: I have noticed that sometimes the noise cancelling technology doesn't work to well, but this is only minor. It does however pick up me sitting from 15ft away just fine without having to yell which is very nice.
Games: As of now there aren't a ton but Eye of Judgment this is a fun game if you like magic the gathering card game or just collecting cards. There are also some nice family games on the PSN to buy.
Overall: It is nice to have if you are looking to the future of gaming or just looking to chat and take pictures. It is sometimes better to buy the camera in a bundle pack though, if you like the game it comes with.

Martial Arts - The Real Key to Success
Is there a secret behind the success of everyone who ever developed real ability in martial arts?
A single attitude that you can model, and almost instantaneously see improvements in your performance?
Fortunately, the answer is yes, and not only does this key to success exist, but you probably already know what it is. So why did I write this article, if you already know about this crucial attitude? Simply because, as with so many things, there is a huge difference between knowing about something, and functionalizing that knowledge. In this article, I want to explain the secret but, much more importantly, I also want to provide some insight into how to apply it.
The secret is engagement with the material. With the nature and content of the activity. This is where many people run into difficulties without even realizing it, because many martial arts training environments provide a model of engagement that is, frankly, rather shallow. Of course, some people rise above the training they have access to, but those are often the people who would have become good no matter what. As a coach, I do not have to worry about those people. I still want to help them fulfill their potential as efficiently as possible, but ultimately, I know that even if they were left to their own devices on a desert island, with no resources of any kind, they would still become good. I am much more concerned with the opportunities available to the average martial artist, who may be severely disadvantaged by the educational approach in his or her training environment.
Since this is an article, and not a novel, I will not bore readers with a list of the ways in which many training environments fail to encourage appropriate engagement. Instead, I will simply ask a question:
How much did you learn today, about the application of a skill you have 'understood' for years?
To illustrate the point of my question, I will give you an example. I was recently working with one of my coaching clients on the Muay Thai neck clinch. At the moment, these skills are experiencing something of a resurgence in MMA, probably as a result of UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva's devastating use of the neck clinch. I have made these skills a huge part of my personal game in martial arts over the last decade, not only because of their general efficacy, but because they suit my body type and fighting style very well. In fact, I would say that they are the centrepiece of my game. Whatever else I am working on in my own training, I devote some time every day to further developing my understanding of this skill set. Now, having worked with these skills so much, and in so much depth, you might think that I would have exhausted the potential for technical variation by now.
Not even close.
In fact, in the course of explaining certain concepts and principles to my client, I came up with several new ways to refine my own use of the neck clinch - ideas which I have since integrated into my game. Nor is this experience unusual. No matter how small or subtle the insight, I never fail to learn something new in this area every time I train. These minute refinements can combine synergistically to create a profound overall improvement in effectiveness.
Now, forget about neck clinches or any other specific skill area, and focus on the concept of engagement. It doesn't matter what you are working with, there is as much depth and sophistication in the skill as you are willing to reach for. As with any other artistic endeavour (and we do call it martial art, after all), insight sometimes seems to happen effortlessly, almost by magic, and at other times you have to focus, do battle with the material and ruthlessly rip the insight out. However it happens, the important thing is that it is possible. This is only true, however, if you are engaged with the material.
In other works, I have commented on the limitations of the technique-based approach to martial arts training, which is particularly common in classical martial arts. One of my main criticisms of this approach is that it almost totally eradicates the potential to strive for more depth and sophistication in your engagement with the technical material. If mimicry is the purpose of your training, and you train simply to copy some ideal 'form', then you are engaging with the material, but at the most shallow level possible. By comparison, the conceptual approach to training offers the most potential for engagement, and thus for development and growth.
