Did MMA Really Come From Bruce Lee?
It is safe to say that within the last decade, there has been a revolution brewing within the field of contact sports and the name of that revolution is MMA or Mixed Martial Arts. Although for centuries, Boxing and Wrestling were considered the kings of full contact sports, within the last few years, the sport of MMA has gone from a relatively unknown and controversial sport to an accepted sport that is the undisputed king of contact sports in terms of popularity. But what exactly is Mixed Martial Arts? Where did it come from? Lastly, how long will its reign on the top last?
In The Beginning...
According to online encyclopedia Wikipedia, Mixed Martial Arts is a "full contact combat sport that allows a wide variety of fighting techniques and skills, from a mixture of martial arts traditions and non traditions, to be used in competitions." Mixed Martial Arts finds its roots in ancient Greece when in 648 B.C. it was first practiced as a sport during the Olympic Games. During these matches, there were no holds barred and anything was acceptable in terms of fighting. Along with the dominance of Ancient Greece as well as the Olympic games, Mixed Martial Arts disappeared from the map and didn't become popular again until the 1800's when 'no holds barred" matches began to spring up in America and Britain. Athletes ranging from boxers to wrestlers would get together and compete, with the wrestlers usually winning out.
They Call Him Bruce
In the 1960's and 70's, world renowned martial artist Bruce Lee would ultimately create the concept of what MMA has become today in the form if the UFC as well as others. Lee felt that no one type of martial arts was vastly superior and in fact, in order for a practitioner of martial arts to become extremely good, he would need to mix different styles together in order to form a superior, all encompassing style. In 2004, the president of the UFC or Ultimate Fighting Championship, Dana White, publicly stated that Bruce Lee was the founding father of modern Mixed Martial Arts.
MMA In The Early 90's
In the 1990's MMA began gaining steam with the initial creation of the UFC. These early UFC bouts were untimed, offered no weight classes, and were often crudely set up and with little rules. Although extremely popular, the lack of a sanctioning body, the relatively young age of the sport, and the unfamiliarity with the safety of the sport caused protests worldwide and the sport acquired a bad name and MMA companies went bankrupt. In 2001, when the UFC was purchased by Zuffa LLC, it reemerged as a threat to be reckoned with. Within just a few years, the sport of MMA quickly became one of the most popular full contact sports in existence, creating a multi billion dollar industry. Due to the varying styles of fighting employed in MMA, its fighters literally become word class athletes, employing science, nearly every combat effective fighting style in existence as well as genuine hard work and dedication in pursuit of victory. These fighters are among the most well conditioned athletes in the world and have turned the sport of Mixed Martial Arts into an art form. With MMA along with MMA Gear becoming more and more popular daily, there is no questioning whether or not it will remain popular for a long time to come as the sport rapidly evolves with technological advances and will be here to stay for quite awhile.
Nintendo 3DS Review
Nintendo 3DS is the true successor of Microsoft's Kinect and Sony's PlayStation. It totally stole the E3 2010 show with its stereoscopic 3D display. The most attractive feature of Nintendo 3DS is you do not need any glasses to see the 3D effects.
Nintendo 3DS Display:
The bottom screen of Nintendo 3DS is a 3.02-inch normal touch panel, whereas the upper screen is slightly larger than the lower screen. The 3.53-inch upper screen display uses lenticular technology. It means that you can get the 3D effect of 3DTV without those hideous glasses. It is like seeing a miniature world through a very small window. It has a pin-sharp 3D effect and a resolution of 800x240 pixels, but it is effectively split into 400x240 pixels per eye. It will not strain your eyes and you will not get any ghosting effects like movies. It is certainly better than 3D Sony Bravia with the clearest and cleanest 3D.
Graphics in Nintendo 3DS:
Nintendo 3DS has a graphical power boost and graphically it will surpass the PSP without any effort. When we saw the famous PS2 title called Snake Eater running in Nintendo 3DS, the remake version looked superior to the original PS2 version even in its early form. PilotWings Resort game demo showed the incredible depth of the small screen. While flying a game in the 3D environment the ground looks far, far away, while your plane and the objects near it stood out. Making acute judgments in your games is made easier. It is easier to fly under the bridges and through the hoops because you are armed with real life depth perception.
3D is one of the many clever tricks offered by this little gadget. The box has an accelerometer and a gyroscope sensor which means you can detect the positional and tilting movement like Wii Remote. Nintendo 3DS has an enhanced wireless communication feature, which seeks out and communicates with the other 3DS units. It also allows you to trade details like items or scores with other players. If you want this feature in the current DS you have to run it in a special mode of communication.
Nintendo 3DS Hardware:
You can see two camera lenses on Nintendo 3DS's outer casing. It appears strange but you can take photos with 3D effects at a resolution of 640x480 pixels. The augmented reality demonstration in this device is even more impressive. It recognizes a Nintendo sticker and on screen it creates a 3D dragon. You can also move the 3DS and recognize the dragon from any angle. The third camera in this device lets you take 2D photos. It has a 3D slider similar to a volume slider that lets you adjust the 3D depth. The Slide Pad contains an analog control, which is far more comfortable and usable than the analog stub in the PSP.
Nintendo 3DS is one of the most exciting gaming hardware with incredible 3D effects. You can expect some revolutionary games which uses this device's many clever features.

Sports Psychology and Visualisation - Minds-Eye of the Tiger
Well, let us be honest, Tiger Woods is unlikely to win 'Husband of the Year' in the near future but how do you rate his chances of winning the Masters when he returns to competitive golf after nearly five months away from the game?
Tiger Woods is one of the most recognisable figures in the world, known to sports fans and non-sports fans alike. As an outstanding golfer, he's no stranger to media attention but after a very public scandal, he knows the eyes of the world will be on him for different reasons. With media and public attention focussed on his personal life, will he be able to remain focussed on his golf?
In terms of career victories, Woods is in third position in the all-time PGA Tour rankings, with only Sam Snead and Jack Nicklaus ahead of him, so his ability as a player is beyond question. However, he has twice before come back to the game after a lengthy lay-off and with mixed results. In 2006 his performance suffered after the death of his father but in 2008 he won, despite playing on a seriously injured knee. This highlights how important it is for competitive sports players to be mentally prepared as well as physically prepared before making a return to play.
Mind Control
American golf writer Ian O'Connor believes that Tiger Woods' return to golf will create unprecedented interest in this year's Masters at Augusta. With this being the case, it begs the question why Woods should choose such a major event to make his return? According to former golf pro Arnold Palmer, Augusta is in fact a wise choice as the venue affords the organisers, and the players, a great deal of control over external factors that might affect the game.

When you already know that not everyone in the crowd is on your side, positive self-talk becomes invaluable. An ability to boost your own confidence and to keep yourself motivated, even in a potentially negative environment, allows you to remain totally focussed on the job in hand.
Positive mental attitude / Winning mentality
Tiger Woods knows what he is capable of, he knows he has prepared, he knows he is ready, and he knows he is in winning form. Positive thoughts lead to positive actions - he'll be letting his actions do the talking.

The Transformers Movie

What's cool about the advancement of technology is that there are certain pieces that were simply made for advanced pieces of technology, but were created too soon. A prime example would be "Dark Side of the Moon" by Pink Floyd. The sonic landscapes and incredible details of the album were simply born to be enjoyed on the crisp, clean sound that a CD player could only provide. Even though "Dark Side" was released in 1974, its full appreciation couldn't be discovered until the advent of the CD some 15 years later. Now, "Dark Side of the Moon" is the first CD you purchase when you grow out of your little crappy radio to a full-fledged adult, amazing kick-ass stereo system.
Which brings us to film; special effects have always been an integral part of creating worlds that moviegoers could believe in. From the colorization of Oz to Moses parting to Red Sea to being chased by the Death Star, special effects are just as important as the lead actor in some films. And while we've always been amazed at what was created for its time, it would be interesting to see what could be done then with the technology of today.
If there is one movie that's destined for today's technological and special effects advances, it comes out in July of 2007: the Transformers. For years, fans and enthusiasts would imagine what a real life Transformer would look like. How would the classic cartoon incarnation of Optimus Prime, Megatron and the other Autobots and Decepticons translate to a live action, big screen adventure? Well, this year, that question will be answered.
Forget about story or character or plot development for a second, and simply focus on big giant robots beating each other up. And then, in an instant, those big giant robots will transform into a truck or a plane and rip through the city at an incredible pace. In the early days of film, the concept would probably be impossible to place on the screen and do it justice. In the golden age of film, it would look interesting, but laughable. In the special effects era of movies, it would look passable, but not believable. But now, in 2007, with all the possibilities and abilities which special effects wizards have at their disposal, the Transformers, should, at the very least, look realistic.
A common source of debate for the upcoming Transformers movie is how the characters should look. The classic cartoon appearance, while iconic and nostalgic, supposedly does not translate that well onto a live action, big screen experience. Therefore, a whole new redesign of all the characters was necessary in order to make this movie appear realistic. And that is one of the main objectives behind this movie: it has to look absolutely real. In today's age of special effects magic, there shouldn't be too many movies that have cheap looking production values. But, in terms of scope and size, the visual challenges of the Transformers represent some of the biggest in moviemaking history.
Of course, because this is a big-budget adaptation of a classic 80's cartoon and comic, the whole idea is to make this a trilogy. But, nobody is going to be interested in Transformers 2 & 3 if the first one looks amateurish. This is one of those movies that could never have been made at any other time before this one, and it's just as imperative that all the effects are done to perfection. There are some cracks at movies that you only get one shot at, with no remake really possible. This is one of those movies!

How Can a True Christian Honor the Lord Jesus Christ - What Does the Bible Say?

There are a few verses in the New Testament (2 Peter 1:17, Revelation 5:12-13) which show us that the Lord Jesus Christ has been honored and glorified and shall yet be even more so when he returns to this earth, but what can we each personally do to honor him in the mean time?
After thinking on this for some time, I found myself back in the book of Esther. Esther is a fascinating book with some quite wonderful characters in it. If you haven't already read it then please do as it's a wonderful and a true story about some fascinating people.
There was Ahasuerus a Persian King and ruler over a huge empire of some 120 provinces - a mixture of different peoples, nations and languages.
There was a young Jewess named Esther who became Queen of this great land - the former Queen having fallen out of favor.
We also find another Jew, a man named Mordacai who was Esther's Uncle who had been responsible for Esther's upbringing, both her parents having died when she was quite young.
And then there was Haman, a quite magnificent character. A real up and coming go getter. A man who knew exactly what he wanted and he went out there and he got it. He really knew how to make things happen. He was driven by a great desire to be rich and famous. He sort great wealth and high position in society. He wanted to be famous, looked up to and respected all throughout the Kingdom of Persia particularly in the palace. That was his goal and he went out and achieved it.
He was the sort of guy who would throw a big party and invite all the social climbers along just to tell them how great and successful he was and these people were happy to go and listen. Happy to be seen in the "right place with the right people," doubtless they were made of the same stuff as Haman. So Haman would speak of his great wealth, success in business and all the great honor that had been given him.
You can just see this guy lying awake in his bed at night thinking up ways he could engineer things tomorrow and how he could manipulate people to gain his own ends. Haman was truly a great man - of the flesh.
Now Haman had been promoted to the highest office in the Kingdom and all people bowed to him and praised him except for one, and that one person was Mordacai the Jew. I don't know why Mordacai refused to honor Haman; perhaps he could see straight through him to the man who was entirely a product of human greed and selfishness.
When Haman saw that Mordacai would not honor him he became furious. He hated Mordacai and wanted him dead. But Haman being a somewhat creative man of considerable vision thought to himself, instead of killing just Mordacai, why not exterminate the entire Jewish race which produced such a man as him.
So he put things in place for that very thing to happen. He asked the King and the King gave him permission to kill all the Jews in his kingdom (which makes you wonder just how much did King Ahasuerus think about any of his decisions). Meanwhile Haman had a gallows built about 23 metres high (big enough to be seen from the palace) to personally hang Mordacai on.
Now Queen Esther had invited Haman to a couple of banquets. Not just any banquets but only for her the King and Haman. Haman was elated. All his dreams had come true.
But on the night before the second banquet, the king had trouble sleeping. Perhaps he had eaten too much the night before or maybe an angel tickled his big toe. For some reason he couldn't sleep anymore. Then he thought that it's not right that the King of Persia be the only one awake so he woke some of his servants and asked that the daily chronicles should be brought and read to him (for after all if reading the daily chronicles won't put you back to sleep then what will?).
So they were brought and they were read. Time moved on until an article was read which was of great interest to the King. It seems that some time earlier, Mordacai had discovered a plot to kill the King and had made the thing known to the proper authorities and the criminals were dealt with and the King's life was saved, and that nothing had ever been done to reward or honor Mordacai.
Just then, Haman arrived in the outer court and made enough noise to be noticed. When the King knew it was Haman he said "Ah! Excellent! Just the man I want to see, bring him in.
Haman my good man I have a problem and I need your advice on it". Haman was most pleased, all his wishes continued to come true. His ego was immense. If his head had swelled any more it would have fallen off. The King wanted to know what would be the best way to honor someone whom he thought should be honored. Haman thought to himself who would the King delight to honor more than me?
Quickly he came up with the answer - the way that he would like to be honored. He said "Get the most noble prince to dress the man in the kings garments and put him on the Kings horse with all its finery and lead the man throughout the city, going on foot before him saying that this is a great man whom the King delights to honor, proclaiming that this is what the King does to honor a great man".
"Excellent idea said the King! Haman you are a noble prince, go and do all that you have said to Mordacai the Jew for it is he whom I wish to honor". Now Haman knew better than to question the Kings judgments so off he went, clothed Mordacai in the Kings attire and put him on his horse and went before him throughout the city proclaiming that Mordacai was a great man and that this is how the King delights to honor him. After this, Haman covered his head and hurried home in shame. Things didn't go to well for Haman from then on, it was all downhill.
So we see here a classic way of honoring someone. Interestingly enough, Jesus was actually honored in a very similar fashion to this. In Matthew 21 we find him riding on an ass that the disciples had put their garments on and others paved the road with their garments and palm fronds and all praised him as the great son of David who came in the name of the Lord.
But how can we honor our God or our Lord Jesus? We can get the best clothes and the best steed but we can't put them on the horse and take them through the streets of our home town. So what can we do?
The main point of honoring Mordacai this way was that he was put on show. The message was proclaimed publicly to all. For the next few days everyone would be talking about it. "Hey did you hear what the King did for Mordacai? Yea! Wow! The King must think that Mordacai is the greatest. We had better listen to anything he says".
Mordacai, the horse and the garments had to be shown and proclaimed to all. It was no great honor to get dressed up and sit on the horse and never leave the stable. To be truly honored he had to get out there and be seen.
So if we really want to honor our Lord Jesus it's up to us to get off our bottoms and get out there and talk to people about him whenever the opportunity presents itself. We have to make him known.
You know that when we do this we don't always get a good reaction. Most people couldn't care less, but that really doesn't matter. It's not our job to save people, that's Gods' job. Our responsibility is to provide God with something to work with, to be a tool in his hand because God loves to work through people. So don't be disappointed if people don't respond when you preach the Gospel, we don't have to be results oriented, we just have to be there as Paul said, He sowed the Gospel seed, Apollos watered it or added to the peoples' knowledge but it was God who gave the increase it is God who makes it all work in the people he chooses to work with (1 Corinthians 3:6).
So let's get out there and honor the greatest man ever, our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Prince of the Covenant: The US / Israel Strategic Alliance; Part IV

The U.S.-Israel Strategic Alliance--no matter what setbacks--is alive, well and proceeding to its logical conclusion: The U.S.-Israel Defense Pact [1]. Iran's determination to resuscitate its nuclear program and trade its oil for anything but dollars; the Sharon "X-Factor"--i.e., Israel after Sharon; and the incessant insurgency in Iraq [2], along with increasing agitation from Hamas (Note Hamas' domination of Palestinian politics.), Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah and other belligerents, have all converged to create the perfect geopolitical storm. We await the unprecedented admission that Israel and the USA will no longer regard as politically embarrassing nor strategically ill-advised vis-à-vis the Arab world to openly declare a comprehensive "peace accord" guaranteeing Israel's security--once and for all! [3]
The debate--or wishful thinking on the part of "fair-minded" (not to say they are not) American Middle East policy wonks like Michael Lind, The Nation et al--over linking Israeli behavior to U.S. support for Israel juxtaposed to the minuscule issue of those in America who want Israel to survive and those (a tiny minority) who do not: Simply ain't 'gonna happen! The pro-Israel lobby is overwhelming in driving the alliance between the USA and Israel--AIPAC (America-Israel Public Affairs Committee), along with other American Jewish Organizations; the powerful, though at times mercurial Evangelical-Zionists (witness Brother Pat's absurdities); and the ever influential Neo-Con Establishment--all demand it, and, furthermore, the punditocracy incessantly clamors for it! [4]
Money talks--anyone who thinks otherwise should wake up and smell the coffee, roses or the skunks out there; and, if you can't, it's the first sign of political Alzheimer's setting in! To think America's political system, where favors are bought and sold--through "campaign finance reform" (witness the Abramoff fiasco)--will ever correct itself . . . then, fella, you've already bought the bridge and it's time for some swamp land down in Florida.
The Strategic vs. the Eschatological Imperative
Now, it's time we delve into the theological intricacies of the eschatological imperative driving the current "strategic dialogue" between the USA and Israel--primarily centering upon the Prince of the Covenant; a title committed to Israel's high priest but practically usurped by the prototype of Antichrist in antiquity, Antiochus Epiphanes IV, as we shall see later [5] But first, and let me forewarn you, this is not designed as a casual read for Christian Triumphalists [6], the faint of heart or, for that matter, those who recoil when believers zealously affirm the end of the world as we know it--especially, given the superabundance of poignant footnotes--however, let us recap.
In the previous three segments of this series on the U.S.-Israel Strategic Alliance, we've stressed the strategic aspects of the alliance. We highlighted the following tenets of the "special relationship" between the United States and Israel:(1) Part I - "Your Covenant with Death, Your Agreement with Hell" . . . toward a U.S.-Israel Defense Pact; guaranteeing Israel's security by the USA.
(2) Part II - "He will confirm a covenant with the many . . ." emphasis upon the "He" in establishing the special relationship between the USA and Israel--the growing ascendancy of Presidential interference (encouraged or unwelcome) juxtaposed to Congressional and/or State Department influence over the U.S.-Israel "special relationship."
(3) Part III - "He will also invade the beautiful land" - The West's gradual buildup in the Middle East; especially, the USA's recent incursions into Iraq, Afghanistan, etc., and the ultimate strategic presence of the U.S. military throughout Israel proper.The Defining Issue
The sine qua non--the indispensable essential--in Premillenarian eschatology (i.e., the direct rule and reign of the "Messianic Era" is yet future upon this earth [7]) which demarcates the end of the age of human history as we have known it, and the supernatural intrusion of Daniel's infamous Seventieth Week, is the deceptive, as well as insolent orchestration of a Defense Pact or Treaty wrought between Israel and earth's uncontested Gentile World Power through the subterfuge of none other than the one known as: The Antichrist! [8]
This mutual accord, to be sure, does not countenance earth's scene unannounced or by happenstance--as if a regathered Israel would submit her security to a mysterious nation or power "out there" who has not, prior to this exquisite subtlety, garnered immense credibility with Jacob's heritage. The Jews of Israel--the modern Israeli state--after centuries of persecution, expulsions, inquisitions, pogroms, holocaust and incessant wars since their rebirth, will not abide a "security alliance" with a neophyte upstart with dubious credentials; especially, if he were to claim Jewish heritage. [9]
Certainly, for such a despicable figure to appear from Eurasia is not only a sheer fabrication of historic revisionism (as if Europe or some other Middle Eastern nation could illicit Israel's signature [10])--it bespeaks a bald-faced rejection of the very Image who arose upon the Plains of Shinar in King Nebuchadnezzar's dream, as interpreted by Daniel the Prophet.
Neo-Babylonia [11], Medo-Persia, Greece, and Rome--the lion, bear, leopard and the ten-horned beast--the head of gold, chest and arms of silver, belly and sides of bronze and legs of iron--these derivatives of the Image connote the development of Gentile World Power; the evolution--the extension--of the Kingdom of this World juxtaposed to Israel, the Jews. (Please see Daniel 2:31-34; 7:3-7.)
Not of Islam, nor of India, the East nor Orthodoxy, and assuredly not of African nor Indigenous Civilizations [12] were envisioned in the prophecies of Daniel and dream of Nebuchadnezzar. There was but one civilization destined to interact with ancient and modern Israel: The West. The overt progression westward from the Crescent of Civilization, Mesopotamia, did this colossus strut and strive upon this earthly clod--demanding unmitigated adoration and worship, homage and subservience. Alas! Did not the West tread upon the face of the whole earth to colonize, subjugate and enrich herself--thus, did the Image begin to walk with feet mixed with iron and clay; some strong, some weak (Daniel 2:33, 41-43)? [13]
Its greatness was and is unquestioned; its military supremacy is altogether awesome . . . to resist is futile, for ultimately, this beast will revert to its most egregious manner: "Dreadful and terrible, exceedingly strong . . . devouring, breaking in pieces, and trampling the residue with its feet" (Daniel 7:7). Yes, what is left after the devouring and breaking to pieces is trampled asunder? There is nothing left! [14]
To deny the West's ultimate manifestation, climax, apex--her crown jewel--is to renounce all sense of historic perspective, and to embrace a colonial template whose zenith in the sun has long been obscured by the reflection of the ten-horned beast: The Eleventh Horn. [15] Alas! That outcropping who, when he bursts forth, uproots three of his familiars. [16] As Nebuchadnezzar was "that head of gold"--a King with a Kingdom--even so, this finality of evil, the embodiment of pomposity, will speak great words; far greater than his fellows (Daniel 7:8, 20), for this recent authority perceives with evil eye and speaks with a mouth words of grandeur to deceive even the very elect . . . such are the powers of persuasion resourced in this latter-day potentate whose empire bears a frightful semblance to its Romish progenitor. [17]
A Beast Rising Up Out of the Sea
Even so, it is precisely this creature from the abyss--the Eleventh Horn-- whose quest for hidden treasures drives him to "rule over many, and (to) divide the land for profit" (Daniel 11:39). There is nothing novel derived from nobility or pauper throughout history [18], given the opportunity, wherein certain of their species will advance to proclaim their hegemony over men of lesser means. But this one's resume sums up perhaps fallen man's greatest efforts--replete with all manner of claims and fancy to advance his sinister agenda.
His use of "slipperiness and flattery" (Daniel 11:34) knows no end in his efforts to coalesce allies [19] . . . .
"Then the king shall do according to his own will: he shall exalt and magnify himself above every god, shall speak blasphemies against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the wrath has been accomplished . . . he shall regard neither the God of his fathers nor the desire of women, nor regard any god; for he shall exalt himself above them all" (Daniel 11:36).And, why should he take regard, when "in their place" - substitutes for the Almighty and all natural relationships is the modus operandi of this Willful King - "he shall honor a god of fortresses" and abject materialism ("he shall honor with gold and silver, with precious stones and pleasant things"--Daniel 11:38)? And with these he is prepared to act "against the strongest fortresses with a foreign god, which he shall acknowledge, and advance his glory" (Daniel 11:39).
How convenient to substitute all that is God for his own achievements--honoring a "foreign god" - the "god of fortresses" who will enable this Willful King to surmount even the strongest of fortresses. Is this not the one who offered Jesus in his temptation all the kingdoms of this world if the Son of Man would simply bow down and worship this provocateur and avaricious imposter? [20]
Let's not equivocate by downplaying his audacious pedigree of evil intent. All of this MADMAN's modus operandi (Antiochus Epimanes IV's title given to him by his enemies) is foundational to his ultimate transfiguration into the latter-day Willful King. For one, the taking of the ultimate presumptuous title: Epiphanes . . . "God is Manifest!" This outrageous accolade underlies the human tragedy of humanity exclusively given over to unbridled deviltry.
Antiquity bears out his primordial pontifications:
"I will ascend into heaven,
I will exalt my throne above the stars of God;
I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north;
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds,
I will be like the Most High"
(Spoken by Lucifer, Isaiah 14:13-14)
Indeed, it was said of Antiochus Epiphanes IV that he was a vile person--to whom they will not give the honor of royalty (Daniel 11:21a). Immediately, this "man of the people" declares his "democratic" intentions: "He shall come in peaceably, and seize the kingdom by intrigue" (Daniel 11:21b).
Could it be that embedded in this delineation is a clue to his populism? Would a popularly elected leader be able to ascend in the latter days to the next disclosure: The Prince of the Covenant (Daniel 11:22)? Is not this the same identification found in Daniel 8?
"And out of one of them came a little horn which grew exceedingly great toward the south, toward the east, and toward the Glorious Land. And it grew up to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and some of the stars to the ground, and trampled them. He even exalted himself as high as the Prince of the host; and by him the daily sacrifices were taken away, and the place of His sanctuary was cast down . . . an army was given over to the horn to oppose the daily sacrifices; and he cast truth down to the ground. He did all this and prospered" (Daniel 8:9-12) (My emphasis).The prophetic writings of Daniel--as well as other Hebrew prophets (e.g., Ezekiel 26-29, the King and Prince of Tyrus; Isaiah 14, the King of Babylon) skillfully deploy this metaphorical instrument to convey both a prototype past, as well as an archetype future, of the Almighty's antithesis.
Even so, the metamorphosis of the figure, Antiochus Epiphanes IV, into the one who will with insolence "confirm a covenant with the many" (Daniel 9:27) - also known as the "the Coming Prince" (i.e., "the prince who is to come" - Daniel 9:26) - will do so as the "prince of the covenant" - for "after the league is made with him (i.e., "the prince of the covenant"), he shall act deceitfully, for he shall come up and become strong with a small number of people" (Daniel 11:22-23).

Clearly Sony recognized that it was being used as more than just a source of recreational game-playing as within a few months of releasing a 120GB version, they introduced one with a larger 250GB hard drive. This extra space obviously provides more storage room and encourages users to download more content from Sony's website, making it a win-win for the consumer as well as for Sony.
Apparently, Sony's incentive in introducing this new version of the Playstation was to boost sales since the previous incarnation's popularity was lagging behind that of competitor's like Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Xbox 360. Some people in the industry see this product as Sony's chance to prove itself as a true player in the gaming console market.
It will obviously take time to see whether Sony will be successful with the launch of this product, but they have already sold millions of units and those numbers are sure to increase as the holiday season approaches and game-loving kids and adults around the world need to have the newest toy.
Purchases of the new Playstation 3 Slim obviously help Sony's bottom line and they seem to be counting on a lower price point to boost volume of sales. At the same time, Sony will probably see an influx of income as purchasers of the Playstation 3 Slim will need to purchase games that are made specifically for the console. Unfortunately, games that were designed for the Playstation 2 are not compatible with the new version. It remains to be seen whether this will discourage owners of the Playstation 2 from upgrading to the Playstation 3.
It may be worth the upgrade simply for some of the other features of the unit, making it appeal to other family members in addition to the game-lovers. The attractive design ensures that the console is not an eyesore. Even the pickiest design-conscious person may not object to having the Playstation 3 Slim on display in the den. There is no need to hide it away in a cabinet. And, it is thought to be one of the best Blu-Ray Disc players on the market today, suddenly rendering it useful to those family members who simply want to watch a movie.
All in all, the Sony Playstation 3 Slim is sure to bring hours of enjoyment to the entire family and probably anyone who receives it this holiday season will have little to complain about.
Is There a Prophet Among Us? The Amazing Life of Fred Stone

Who is Perry "Fred" Stone, Sr.? Some would say holy-roller preacher, others would say healer. To Mr. Stone, the most important title would be Proud Servant of the Most High God. Born on February 11, 1933 to William Henry Stone and Nalvie Dunford Ball in Johnny Cake Hollow, West Virginia, his initial entry into the world was met with challenges, for after his mother gave birth, the mid-wife attempted to kidnap him. If Fred's father had not arrived in the nick of time to rescue him, only God knows what his fate would have been. From the beginning, it seems Satan has tried to interrupt God's plan on Fred Stone's life. However, he has prevailed and has used his ministry to honor and glorify the God of Israel.
At age sixteen, Fred attended a revival in West Virginia that changed his life. During the service the preacher, Mildred Collins asked, "Fred, if you should die at midnight tonight, where would you spend eternity? You are lost without God." The amazing thing is that Mildred did not know Fred and later informed Fred that she never spoke those words. What's more intriguing is that none of the parishioners heard Mildred speak those words to Fred. Nonetheless, the Holy Spirit convicted his soul that night and Fred went to the altar and gave his life to Jesus Christ.
After his conversion, Fred witnessed spiritual gifts operating throughout the church by other people and went to the altar and prayed to receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit. It wasn't a long, drawn out prayer unto the Lord. It was a simple one. He prayed, "Lord, whatever this is that everybody else has, I'd like to have it too. It looks to me that like I need it." After three days of praying, God answered his prayers and he received the gift of the Holy Spirit.
During Fred's early ministry, the Lord moved tremendously. Fred healed countless people: A woman whose face had been eaten with cancer was healed through prayer and anointing. A man who was born blind in one eye miraculously healed and gained eye sight he never had. As he grew spiritually in the Lord, he met a beautiful singer, Juanita Bava at a revival. They had four children: Diane, Melanie, Perry Jr, and Phillip.
The Holy Spirit constantly moved through the churches which Fred pastured. Although there are numerous churches in the world, it is important to allow the Holy Spirit to move through out the church. More importantly, it is necessary for the pastor over the congregation to allow the Lord to use him/her as a His vessel. God has used Fred Stone as an instrument in displaying all nine gifts of the Holy Spirit; he explains each gift in detail:
Word of Wisdom- A spiritual declaration that applies the Word of God.
Word of Knowledge- An inspirational revelation that provides knowledge from God about a specific person or circumstance.
Faith- A supernatural ability to trust and believe God for the miraculous.
Gift of Healing-From prayer of a believer in Christ, the supernatural of God heals physical and emotional health to the sick.
Working of Miracles- Supernatural acts of God that often change the course of natural law.
Prophecy- An utterance that comes directly from God by prompting of the Holy Spirit that reveals the will of God in a specific situation.
Discerning of Spirits- Enables the believer to recognize whether a spirit, a prophecy, a word is truly from the Holy Spirit.
Different Kinds of Tongues- The Spirit-filled believer supernaturally speaks in different languages unknown to the speaker.
Interpretation of Tongues- Through the Holy Spirit, this gift makes known the meaning of the revelation that was spoken in tongues.
Some denominations claim that the gift of tongues no longer happens in today's age. That simply is not true. On one occasion when he was at the altar praying for a man, Fred spoke in tongues and when Fred finished praying the man said, "You were praying in a perfect Arabic language. You spoke my name and asked the Lord to fill me with the Holy Spirit." Fred Stone has never been taught to speak Arabic. Just like on Pentecost, the Holy Spirit is still using the gifts of tongues to reach unbelievers.
Throughout his life, Fred often mentions how the Holy Spirit has warned him of coming trouble. What is so amazing is that sometimes these warning are in dreams, visions, or a clear audible voice. In 1952, as he was driving through English, West Virginia, the Lord told Fred to slow his car down because the tie rod was about to fall off--Fred obeyed and minutes later the tie rod fell off as he drove across a bridge. In 1968, the Lord gave him a vision about an impending attack against his brother serving in the Vietnam War. He quickly wrote his brother, telling him of the details of the vision, which proved to save the life of his brother due the vision the Lord gave Fred. In one circumstance, Fred did not heed the warning of the Holy Spirit and he and his family paid a heavy price. In 1960, near Elkin, West Virginia the Lord tried to warn him three times of an impending accident and Fred did not heed the warnings and his family was involved in a near fatal accident.
Perry "Fred" Stone, Sr. has been on the great commission to spread the Gospel for God since the Lord called him during that revival in West Virginia. You may not be familiar with his name or know who he is, but he is a unique treasure. In reading the story about his life, there has been a noticeable common thread: the altar. He constantly went to the altar before God and humbly asked for whatever he needed. In going to the altar, Fred has led many people to Jesus Christ. Not to mention, his son Perry Stone continues his father's legacy in spreading the Gospel. Apostle, prophet, man of God...any of these titles Fred Stone could easily claim. However, I have no doubt the most important title to him is "faithful servant" an honorable name bestowed to those most deserving. After he finishes the race, I'm sure he'll hear those words that all Christians long to hear, "Well done, my good and faithful servant."
