PlayStation 3 120 GB Review
The Sony 120GB Playstation 3 pioneered a new line of the slim model for this product. The transition to the slim model was made necessary due to imperfections in the old model which led to overheating issues. The slim improves on the design to reduce those issues. A smaller, quieter, and more efficient system with a bigger hard drive is very impressive. It has lost a few features along the way. The 120GB slim has 2 USB ports and the card reader slots have been removed. Also there is no backwards compatibility.
Being a previous owner of the 60GB, I will be the first to admit that although the 4 USB ports and card readers and backwards compatibility were a nice luxury, the line-up of next generation games available have reduced my urge to play PS2 games down to nearly nothing, and I didn't find myself using the card reading capabilities that often either.
There is one noticeable annoyance with the new 120GB slim PS3. Upon starting the system and turning it off, sometimes I hear a cracking sound which concerned me at first, but I believe it is caused by a temperature change which causes the body to either expand or contract. It's worrisome only due to the fact that the older models had heating issues and this model is supposed to be an improvement on that.
Overall, this is hands down the best system with its unrivaled versatility and free online gaming. The system can be turned into the central piece in a home entertainment system.
